The Power of Who Book Review
During my trip to CoSIDA in San Antonio I read Bob Beaudine’s new book, The Power of Who. I actually first came across this book at my local bookstore while I was looking for a book titled The Power of Less. I was interested in The Power of Who simply because of Bob’s bio on the jacket, but I decided to wait and see if I heard anybody else talking about it before picking it up.
Well just a few days after this I saw that Bob was going to be a guest on a NACMA call, so that was enough to convince me to order a copy.
I have to admit that its been a while since I’ve been moved and motivated so much by a book. Probably the last book with the same amount of impact on my life was Todd Duncan’s High Trust Selling. I highly recommend you order a copy of The Power of Who today, and dive in as soon as it arrives. You will thank me.
I like it so much that over the next few months I’m going to be ordering copies and sending them to my “Who”.
Here are just a few of my takeaways:
“You already know everyone you need to know” – This is actually the subtitle of the book but after you read the first couple chapters it will really make sense. Used to be we all thought in terms of “six degrees of separation”. Now though, connected as we all are through various online networks its really more like two or three degrees of separation. No matter what you want to accomplish in your work or personal life, there’s probably someone in your “Who” or in their “Who” that can help you reach your goals.
You’ve probably heard the saying “what gets measured gets improved”. This can also be applied to your network. By focusing on the people you have in your network and giving them the proper care and attention, the same care and attention will come back to help you when you need it.
The Power of Who will help you define and refine those people that are in your network. Our level of success can be predicted by those we spend the most amount of time with. By nurturing the positive relationships you have with those in your network and seeking out the types of individuals that aren’t in your network but should be, your life and associated goals can take on a whole new trajectory.
Bob Beaudine’s book will help you look at those you choose to let into your “Who” or your network in a whole new way than you might be used to. Reading The Power of Who definitely caused a shift in my thinking, and I’m sure will lead me to greater heights personally and professionally.
Bob is also on twitter and I’ve found him to be a good follow: @YouGotWho
